Wappingers Falls man honored for youth work

One of the regular readers and commenters to this blog was recently honored for his work with youth.

George Jennings of Wappingers Falls has received the George H. Meany Award from the Wappingers Federation of Workers.

The George H. Meany Award is a national recognition approved by the AFL-CIO executive council, presented to a union member who has made a significant contribution to the youth of their community through Scouting.

Jennings, a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council, is a 60-year veteran of Scouting and a retired employee of the Wappingers Central School District.

Jennings joined the Boy Scouts in 1946 and has held various leadership positions in several councils over the years, serving in the Suffolk County Council, Hudson Delaware Council and Dutchess County Council, as well as his current position with the Hudson Valley Council.

A founding member of the Wappingers Falls Rotary Club, Jennings has served on the Dutchess County Youth Board as a member and as secretary.

A member of the Faith Assembly of God, he serves as the committee chairman of the School Age Child Care Program run by the church.

Congratulations to George for his long term commitment to youth.
