CNY TOR Report – June 11-12, 2010

“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
“To talk of many things:
Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–
Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–
And whether pigs have wings.”

The Walrus and The Carpenter

Back from the Central New York TOR held this past weekend with lots of news and images which should see the light of day over the next couple of weeks. Thanks to Dick, Steve and the rest of the William Hillcourt Scout Museum for putting on the TOR.

I have news and images for a number of patches issued by various NY OA Lodges some heard at the TOR and other via email reports.

  • Half Moon Lodge #28 has at least 3 varieties of its current regular issue flap.
  • Tkaen DoD Lodge #30 reportedly has a new anniversary issue out.  Need scans and a trade.
  • Suanhacky Lodge #49 has 3 new issues out, an 80th Anniversary flap and 2 different Vigil triangles.
  • Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82 has a 2010 Jamboree Flap out
  • Ho-De-No-Sau-Nee Lodge #159 issued a 2010 Philmont Trek flap
  • Ho-Nan-Ne-Ho-Ont Lodge #165 issued a 2-piece set for the 2010 Jamboree featuring Heron-man seen on their 2009 NOAC sets.
  • Kayanernh-Kowa #219 has two final issues, a neckerchief celebrating their 10th Anniversary in 2009 and a final flap issued as a gift from the Lodge Advisor.
  • Lowanne Nimat Lodge #219 has 3 issues in the works, 2 Jamboree Flaps and a Charter Member flap. There is some question over which will be issued first.  There is also word that there totem may not be the Gougou (which translates as ―A giant, man-like beast); but a red fox.
  • Ashokwahta Lodge #339 has a new black-bordered regular issue flap.
  • Kittan Lodge #364 has issued 4 flaps celebrating the Centennial.
  • Tschipey Achtu Lodge #397? has issued 4 patches, a Charter Member flap, a two-piece set and their first event patch.
  • Buckskin Lodge #412 has a new Jacket Patch  and a new Chapter issue.  The chapter patch was issued jointly by two of Buckskin’s chapters.
  • The 2010 Section conclaves have begun, Sections NE-7A and 7B have both held their conclaves and both issued a pocket patch and a jacket patch.

Lots of new issues, posts with these issues should begin appearing tomorrow.

Though we are not now at that strength which in better days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are; one equal temper of heroic hearts made weak by time and fate but not in will; To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield

1955 Area 2-E Conclave

One of my acquisitions from the Central New York TOR last weekend was a neckerchief slide from the 1955 Area 2-E Conclave. The 1955 Conclave was hosted by Ganeodiyo Lodge #417 and held at their Camp Babcock Hovey.

1955 Area 2-E Neckerchief Slide

Mike Hulsizer says there were two varieties for the neckerchief slide. With and without camp fires alongside the tepee.    This is the no fire version which he believes may be the staff issue.

I need the other variety.

The OA Section List the following lodges were in Area 2-E at the time:

  • Ty-Ohni Lodge #95
  • Ganosote Lodge #159
  • Chautauqua Lodge #165
  • Tuscarora Lodge #284
  • Amo’chk Lodge #339
  • Tuighaunock Lodge #409
  • Wakanda Lodge #186 (to 2-H in 1956)
  • Ganeodiyo Lodge #417 (to 2-H in 1956)

“America faces a new culture war. This is not the culture war of the 1990s. It is not a fight over guns, gays or abortion. Those old battles have been eclipsed by a new struggle between two competing visions of the country’s future. In one, America will continue to be an exceptional nation organized around the principles of free enterprise–limited government, a reliance on entrepreneurship and rewards determined by market forces. In the other, America will move toward European-style statism grounded in expanding bureaucracies, a managed economy and large-scale income redistribution. These visions are not reconcilable. We must choose.” – Arthur C. Brooks, The Washington Post, May 23, 2010
