Interactive Blue Book

Roy More recently posted that the Interactive OA Blue Book was ready for testing.

They have added the ability to view existing data and add new issues and images to the database in a pending mode.

Clicking on the image above will bring you to the site.

I spent some time checking it out.  First I added Kittan Lodge and than input all 18 issues since their inception (including 3 fakes) all of which have previously reported on this site.

You can see the results there:

I left some comments on the post about my experience.

Give it a read, check out the other comments and give the site a test drive.

Tony Woodlief: Boy, the Scout Handbook Keeps Changing –

An article in the Wall Street Journal today on the changing BSA handbook.

Thumbing through various editions brings such differences into sharp relief. A 1951 fifth edition has an Indian spirit on its cover, presiding over camping Scouts. It’s the first edition with a Conservation Pledge (as well as an ad for hunting-rifle ammunition). The 1972 handbook, meanwhile, features Scouts looking through a telescope, despite Seton’s claim back in 1911 that a Scout doesn’t want to know stars “as an astronomer, but as a traveler.” The first editions are laden with text, history and diagrams. Modern editions are filled with color photos, less instruction and little history. The newest is, however, made without chlorine.

A Look Back – Ga-Hon-Ga Lodge #34 5th Anniversary Set F1 X7

Over two and a half years ago, I wrote about a new two-piece set from Ga-Hon-Ga Lodge #34 celebrating its 5th Anniversary. The two piece set recognizes the 182 combined years of history from the 6 predecessor lodges. These lodges are depicted by their totems, lodge numbers and start date on the chevron.

Chris advises that they are (at least currently) being issued one set per member.

An auction for this Ga-Hon-Ga Lodge #34 F1 X7 set recently ended on eBay for a surprising amount.

Clicking on the image will bring you to the auction for the next few months.

There were 5 distinct bidders at $ 25 or more, but two bidders were determined to add this piece to their collection.  One of them did for over $ 85.00.
