You collect what?

The next time someone stares at you in disbelief at your hobby of collecting patches, tell them at least your not spending your time doing this:

  1. Hello,
In reference to promoting patch collecting and also making cached event covers, which I do I’m looked down on .
Please don’t use my name, initials are ok. I have a Scout executive who has gained power to be second in command (program chairman or coordinator. He has been down on me as being in Scouting only for the “COLLECTING”. He doesn’t believe that I’m hear to promote Scouting for the boys and that collecting is just my side hobby as my disability sidelines me.

He does every thing in his power to keep me from being involved in any activities out side of the district. No National activities if he has his way. No OA advisor positions for me as I’m bad news. He even made it hard for me to have the lodge give me the VIGIL Honor. It took 15 years before I received it and I was told by several people that he was the one that held it back from me.

I don’t have the patches from the last two years of our summer camp because he was the director and every time I tried to get the patches they were all sold out and no one could get any for me. Now I have to wait for years for them to show up on the open market to fill two years in my collection.

I could put on an excellent collecting merit badge promotion and a stamp program for the council if it wasn’t for him.

I was district advancement advancement chairman for 15 years and he was our district executive for part of that time. I finally needed a change and I gave up the position so some one new with fresh ideas could take over. I got a two second thank you from him and that was all. Then my replacement could only bad mouth me saying I did a lousy job.

This is the kind of stuff that us volunteers run into when trying to promote and encourage these activities.

One hand they say oh buy these nice collectibles and then they say thats all your in it for just go away.

Thank you for listening to me gripe.
