Area 2-G 1969 NOAC Contingent Neckerchief

Area 2-G issued several NOAC Contingent pieces over the years.  I had previously written on their contingent patch for the 1971 NOAC. This time, we have a neckerchief issued for the 1969 NOAC held at the University of Indiana.

Were there any other items issued for this NOAC by Area 2-G?

Number 1000

On April 30, 2007 I posted on the 500th entry to my blog. Almost to the day, 15 months later this will be the 1000th post since the inception of the blog in January 2004.

The blog has grown from its humble more infrequent postings to being updated virtually every day, with information on new and newly discovered issues from the 70+ lodges from New York State. the scope of the blog has broadened a bit since than. In addition to Blue Book Issues, I now try to cover Section and Area Conclaves for the New York Lodges, neckerchief slides and bolos and other related OA materials. I have been able to do this only with the strong support of my loyal readers.

I’ve enjoyed the ride so far, lets see where the next 1000 will lead.

Nischa Nimat Lodge #181 Oddity

An odd flap from Nischa Nimat Lodge #181recently appeared on eBay. It appeared to have a gray border not the white or black borders typical of most issues. Was it a new issue, something not previously cataloged?

Dave Scocca was the winning bidder and provided all of the scans in this post. He confirmed the color was true in the scan but…

On closer investigation, it’s the S-7 with a hand-colored border. I will send a separate message with scans plus some details of the edge that make this obvious–the gray doesn’t go all the way around to the back of the flap, and there are tell-tale dark edges on the blue sky and particularly the green grass.
Here are some of the additional scans (click on the pictures for larger images) :

And two more:

Left Front Edge View, Note the white alongside the gray

181 S? Left Front Edge View

You can see the part of the white border which has not been colored gray alongside the gray front edge.

In this scan, you will see the discoloration along the edge of the green grass on the bottom of the flap where is abuts the border.

So is it or isn’t it?
No it isn’t a newly discovered issue, just a hand made oddity.

Knowledge is Power – Tahgajute 247 X1

Ray Gould had named the Tahgahute Lodge #247 X1 as one of the toughest pieces from the Lodge in an earlier post on the toughest New York OA from old Area 2-G.

Aside from the N0.5 (which is still a need of mine) it is probably the toughest patch issued by the lodge.

Tahgajute #247 X1

Tahgajute #247 X1

There is a Tahgajute #247 X1 currently available on eBay. The starting bid is $ 80.00. While it is sometimes tough to tell on odd-shapes how high they will go, I would not be surprised for this patch to go for 2-3 times the starting bid.

Do you need one?

Half Moon Lodge #28 Bolo Slide

It has been a while since I last posted on NYS OA Neckerchief Slides or Bolos; but I recently acquired a bolo tie from Half Moon Lodge #28 in Kingston, NY.

As you can see, the bolo is a black arrowhead with the lodge totem. The Lodge name and number is gold-colored.

Discovery – Half Moon Lodge #28 J5 or YJ1

Tom Wadnola has come across a previously unlisted Jacket Patch from Half Moon Lodge #28. It mirrors the design of the J3 or J4, but has a brown background rather than black. Is it a prototype or an unlisted issue? Both the J3 and J4 were Dance Team patches and were not issued in large quantities.

28J5 or 28YJ1? What do you think?

My initial inclination, is to call this the 28 YJ1 until more information can be uncovered. Can anyone provide any additional information?

Section NE-2B 2008 Conclave

The last NE-2B conclave was held at Kittatiny Mountain Scout Reservation in June 2008. According to Howard Gordon, there were a

Total of 4 including the Service Corps patch (which will probably be in the Blue Book as a Sakuwit 2 Event patch): Participants patch, Jacket Patch BLK bdr (Trading Post), Jacket Patch GMY bdr (COC), Octagon Shaped Service Corps patch issued by / for Sakuwit 2 members (2X26? on OA Images.)

The pocket patch is shown below.

There was also a participant pin (after the jump).
