Region Update

After yesterdays post on potential changes relating to the BSA Regions, I received the following which is part of a memo from Bob Mazzuca dated September 21, 2009 which said in part:

Basically, the region structure will remain, but it will be centralized in Texas resulting in the closing of the 4 Regional offices.

NER update 2Cost reduction is a major factor here with an estimated cost reduction of more than $2,000,000 per year. Good luck to those affected by the changes.

  1. Dear Bill,

Given how many mergers are occurring, I do wonder what will happen at the next regional realignment. My thoughts are:

    1) Is the region as necessary now as it was before? Can we perhaps focus on the area more? As we do this, then perhaps the area can supplant the region, like we had before the 6 region structure was enacted.

    2) What would the OA’s role be in this? Can we have multiple lodges in a council, focused around a camp? Can an Arrowman be a member of two lodges in a council? What will come of conclaves?

    3) If the BSA’s membership increases greatly, will larger councils divide into at least two councils? Or will the large council be the way of the future?

Anyway, I don’t expect answers from you, but they are on my mind.
