Adirondack Lodge #357 ZS3
A scan of the third fake from Adirondack Lodge again provided by Ray Gould. It is not my intent to encourage the collecting or production of fakes here, but to educate the collector to avoid being scammed.
The Blue Book describes the ZS3 as RED C M/C BLK fake of S1a; Asian EMB

This set of 4 #357 fake issues was produced by former lodge member (now deceased) Tom Beahan. All accounts indicate he had them produced NOT for the purpose of fraud or deception. Instead (as I understand), he gave them to friends / fellow lodge members as gifts or trade (of nominal value). He openly represented them as reproductions and date back to the late 1960’s. There were 25 sets (of 4 patches) produced.

Ray,
While they may have started out as gifts for friends but they are not official Adirondack Lodge issues. Over the years any set that may have fallen into ‘less scrupulous’ hands has the potential to allow an unsuspecting collector to be fooled. Supplying the hobby with copies of the images is a laudable action as it provides valuable tool for all traders. Eductaion is a ‘good’ thing. I did not mean to imply any intent to the ‘issuer,’ but its possible effects in the ‘aftermarket.’
Thanks for all of your scans and continued input.

Your remarks were taken as meant. I simply wished to provide some additional background information about them. I have avoided collecting fakes to a large extent. However, knowing the heritage behind these items led me to add them to my #357 collection. Thanks for all you do to promote NYS collecting.
