Scouting Hot Finds – eBay Spring Seller Update

Jason Spangler talks about upcoming changes on the eBay collectibles category which will go into effect on May 1, 2015.

In this episode of Scouting Hot Finds Radio I am going to break down the changes eBay is rolling out to the marketplace on May 1, 2015. For the most part it’s a story of carrots and sticks. Some of the changers are meant to entice sellers to behave in a way that eBay sees as healthy for the site. Other changes are meant to rap you over the knuckles if you go against the tide especially if relaunching the same auctions a dozen times was your game.

State of the Hobby – October 1948 Order of the Arrow Handbook

As some of you may know, one of my side collections is Order of the Arrow Handbooks. I maintain an online OAHB checklist of the ones I have and need.

Recently there was an auction on eBay back in January 2015 for the second paperback Order of the Arrow Handbook published in October 1948. You can tell this is the second version from “Handbook” printed on the cover which was not present in the August 1948 version.

Clicking on the image will bring you to the3 auction results for the next few weeks.

Bidding started at $ 9.99 and 7 unique bidders drove the price up to $ 100.00.

Prior to 1989 has a code to determine which printing the book is from and the quantity of books printed. This code is normally listed beneath the copy right information. For example, 55M966 would indicate 55,000 thousand copies were printed in September 1966.

Since circa 1996, the easiest way to identify the edition of the handbook is to look for the name of the National Chief on the title page.

Looking to confirm if one more recent OA Handbook was actually issued for 2011 and if so, I’m looking to purchase or trade for it.

2011 National Chief Jonathan Hillis

Can anyone confirm if they have an OA Handbook with these National Chiefs?

“While complying can be an effective strategy for physical survival, it’s a lousy one for personal fulfillment. Living a satisfying life requires more than simply meeting the demands of those in control. Yet in our offices and our classrooms we have way too much compliance and way too little engagement. The former might get you through the day, but only the latter will get you through the night.” ― Daniel H. Pink
