Camp Portaferry won’t operate next summer

I had earlier posted under Camp for Trade or Sale about the potential sale of Camp Portaferry by the Hiawatha Seaway Council.

Some additional information was recently available on the MSNBC website.

Due to poor attendance, the Hiawatha Seaway Boy Scout Council has decided to not operate boy scout camp at Camp Portaferry near Harrisville next summer. Instead boy scouts will go to Sabattis Scout Reservation in Tupper Lake, according to council executive Raymond Sander.

But there is still some hope for the Camp remaining at least partially in Scout Hands:

“There is concern about the future use of the camp and perhaps partnering is an opportunity with another charity or another entity and to use the camp in some form or fashion in the future,”

A Scouts First Camp or first Summer Camp is always held in special regard.  While Portaferry is not mine, I know how I would feel if the situation was the same for Ten Mile River.
