Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82 Event Issue eR2002-1

DiscoveryWe have all heard the expression a small lodge that doesn’t have a lot of traders; well despite being from the heart of New York City, Man-A-Hattan Lodge #82 fits that description. Five issues surfaced at the Shu Shu Gah #24 TOR a couple of weekends ago, Gene Berman gets credit for the discovery.

The first one is a Fundraiser patch for a Camp-O-Ree they hosted back in 2002.

Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82 newly discovered eL1963-4

Discovery Another new event discovery from Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82. The late 1950’s through mid- 1960’s seemed to be a popular time for event issues from the Lodge. Since in recent years (the last 15-20 certainly). Man-A-Hattin has been one of the smallest GNYC Lodges and has never had many collectors. Many of these event issues have never been cataloged before. You can see a number of them by clicking on the Man-A-Hattin Category Link on the Left Sidebar.

This one is a white Naugahyde (?) neckerchief slide with a red sill screened design.

Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82 newly discovered Fake ZS3

Fake At the Lodge #2 TOR this weekend, I acquired a new fake from one of the other table-holders. He had acquired it himself at a TOR several months back. The individual I acquired it from has a long history in buying and selling memorabilia and is not known for dealing in these types of patches.

The flap is computer designed version of the Manahattin Lodge #82 F1 or S1, and is of much better quality than the recent batch of “modern fakes” on eBay.

Both John Pannell and Bob McCanless have both weighed in on the subject of fakes from two different points of view. Although neither of them are in favor of fakes. Take the time to read them,

But to the subject at hand:

Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82 2006 NOAC Issue S19

A late addition to the 2006 NYS NOAC list comes from Lodge #82. Man-A-Hattin Lodge issued two flaps for this years NOAC a fundraiser and a trader. I haven’t been able to confirm, but I beleive the Gold Mylar Border was a fundraiser. Will update once I can provide confirmation.

The design, same as the S18 is of a Yellow Checker Cab being driven by a beaver, leaving NYC.

Focus on Fakes - Man-A-Hattin Lodge #82 ZS2

A number of these fakes have shown up on eBay recently. At least one seller openly referring to them as fakes. Gene Berman confirmed with the then Lodge Advisor Tom Bain, the Current Lodge Advisor John Ward and the 96 Contingent Leader David Ames that these flaps were never ordered by the lodge nor were they an order rejected by the lodge.

The upper image is the S11, the lower image is the Fake, ZS2.
