State of the Hobby – OA Lodge 418 Nick Stoner 1948 slide

A neckerchief slide attributed to Nick Stoner Lodge #418 recently ended on eBay. The Blue Book shows a charter year of 1949 for the Lodge, but they certainly could have been meeting before the charter date. Can anyone confirm the provenance of this slide?

There were 5 unique bidders for this slide, and two of them stayed in to the end when the hammer came down it sold for nearly $ 23.00.

In 1953 Nick Stoner changed its name to hay-En-Da-Ne-Gea Lodge #418.

  1. The name of the new Lodge was Thay-En-Da-Ne-Ga as noted on the patches. I’ll check with the Nick Stoner member who is still in the area on the slide and let you know as soon as I can if it is genuine.

  2. I became a member of Thay-En-Da-Ne-Ga 418 in 1965. They had a similar metal slide that they issued in 1956 for the 2D Conclave at Woodworth Lake Scout Reservation and it has 2D noted on it near the base. A W is marked near each of the 3 points of the arrow head with 418 in the middle. The letters OA are not on it nor is the arrow. I have everything(?) issued officially by the lodge, and I have never seen this one before. If the lodge issued it, it had to be prior to ’56 and in very limited numbers. There is no indication that the 418 Nick Stoner Lodge ever issued anything but the pocket patch. I cannot swear either way. I’d sure like to pick one up regardless. 3. After 53 years of collecting I’m looking to sell my collection. I have everything 418, Nick Stoner including original colored drawing of the patch, as well as original listing of the initial members and variations, all Woodworth Lake Scout Reservation patches from its opening in 1949 right through its closing all mint, full set of all staff neckerchiefs from the Woodowrth, AS WELL AS A UNIQUE SET OF 1965-65 Worlds Fair Scout items, and paper and plaques from Woodworth. Just saying. gprincipal52@nullyahoo.com
