Section NE-5 1997 Chenille

The 1997 Section conclave was hosted by Monaken Lodge #103 and was held at their Camp Seven Mountains. The theme was Celebrate Our Ties To Our Past. It was also the last year prior to the Section reorganizaton.

The Chenille that I have pictured (apologies for the poor photo quality) was issued at the last NE-5 Conclave in 1997. There were 144 Made/Issued. This was the same conclave that the NE-5 round was sold. It’s the one on your site with the GMY border and the totems around the edge that says NE-5 in the middle along with Ordeal, Ordeal, Vigil arrows.

Look Back – Section NE-3C 1997 Conclave

Nearly four years ago, I posted about the Section NE-3C 1997 Conclave hosted by Loon Lodge #364.

Roy Weatherbee provided information about a neckerchief issued for the event.

This is still a need of mine if anyone has one available for sale or trade.

—————–

One of the most fundamental requirements of a capitalist economic system—and one of the most misunderstood concepts—is a strong system of property rights. For decades social critics in the United States and throughout the Western world have complained that “property” rights too often take precedence over “human” rights, with the result that people are treated unequally and have unequal opportunities. Inequality exists in any society. But the purported conflict between property rights and human rights is a mirage. Property rights are human rights.

The definition, allocation, and protection of property rights comprise one of the most complex and difficult sets of issues that any society has to resolve, but one that must be resolved in some fashion. For the most part, social critics of “property” rights do not want to abolish those rights. Rather, they want to transfer them from private ownership to government ownership. . . .

Any restraint on private property rights shifts the balance of power from impersonal attributes toward personal attributes and toward behavior that political authorities approve. That is a fundamental reason for preference of a system of strong private property rights: private property rights protect individual liberty. …Armen Alchian

“I am for doing good to the poor, but…I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.” – Benjamin Franklin
