Area 2-G 1971 Conclave Leather Neckerchief Slides

Mark Eddy sends along a couple of scans of additional color variations and an error version of the Area 2-G 1971 Conclave Leather Neckerchief Slides.

It seems likely that scrap leather was used for these, so they may well exist on other colors as well.

There is also a 1791 error version.

State of the Hobby – Lodge 402 Onteroraus 1971 Banquet Leather Neckchief Slide

An auction recently ended on eBay for an Onteroraus Lodge #402 event Neckerchief Slidewhich I believe is the only lodge event issue from Onteroraus Lodge .

Clicking on the image will bring you to the auction results for the next few months.

Is anyone aware of any other event issues from Onteroraus Lodge #402?

Bidding started at just $ 1.00, but 3 bidders made 10 bids before this one ended. Two of the three bidders stuck in there slugging it out until the hammer came down at $ 46.00.

Look Back – Area 2-J 1971 Conclave

Five years ago, I was posting about the 1971 Area 2-J Conclave. Areas predated the current Sections and were in use from circa 1949 to 1972.

I say stealth issue as the pocket patch does not indicate that it was for Area 2-J, does not mention the event nor indicate where it was head.

The arrowhead shaped patch does contain WWW and is dated 1971.

Look Back – Area 2-G 1971 NOAC Neckerchief

As the flood of 2012 NOAC issues has begun, we take a look back to an earlier 2-G Contingent issue for the 1971 NOAC. This one was not issued for a single Lodge, but was issued for the OA Area (the precusor to today’s Sections). The area covered the Central New York region.

The neckerchief shows an outline of New York State (although Long Island appears to have floated away).

1971 Area 2-D Conclave Staff Neckerchief

Been a very busy week with life, work and Scouting since the Shu Shu Gah TOR last weekend, but hopefully things will calm down a bit and I can get back to more regular posting. I picked up a number of conclave items from lodges in Northeastern NY thanks to Gene Philips. Here is one, a staff neckerchief from the 1971 Area 2-D Conclave held at Camp Saratoga and hosted by Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268.

I was unaware of the existence of this item and I understand there may be a variety with a similar ribbon with red detailing.

I’ll add this to the original 1971 2-D conclave listing.

According to Rob Higgens’ OA Section List web site, the following lodges were in Area 2-D at that time:

  • Sisilija Lodge #19
  • Half Moon Lodge #28
  • Wakpominee Lodge #48
  • Nischa Nimat Lodge #181
  • Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268
  • Loon Lodge #364
  • Thay-En-Da-Ne-Gea Lodge #418

Area 2-E 1971 Conclave Issues

The 1971 Area 2-E Conclave was held at Camp Merz and hosted by Chautauqua Lodge #165.

There were 2 issues for this event, a pocket patch and a neckerchief that I am aware of.

The pocket patch:

Area 2-G 1971 Conclave Neckerchief Slides

I had previously written about the Area 2-G 1971 Conclave held at Camp Russell. Mark Eddy advises that there were several more leather variations for the neckerchief slides.

The 1971 leather examples in the photos are not all that exist. There is a red ink on the gray leather example and an example of the mistake stamp of 1791 instead of 1971. I had all of them at one time so I have seen them and they do exist.

“I began to sense faintly that secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy … censorship. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, this you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know, the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.” – Robert A.
