New York State Grant For Area Boy Scouts

Camp MerzJW sends along a link for some good news for the Scouts in Allegheny Highlands Council , the home of Ho-Nan-Ne-Ho-Ont Lodge #165.

Area Boy Scouts enjoying their summer at Camp Merz in Mayville took time Thursday to meet with state Sen. Cathy Young, R-Olean, as she announced a $100,000 grant for the Allegheny Highlands Council.

”The Boy Scouts of America has a time-tested tradition of serving youth across the country, preparing them with necessary life skills, teaching teamwork and leadership, service to others, while educating them on the importance of our flag and country,” Sen. Young said. ”Campsites like Camp Merz provide a place for Boy Scouts to nurture these skills, work on their merit badges as well as learn how to respect our environment and survive in the woods.”

Good news indeed.

To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.” Thomas Jefferson
