Knowledge is Power - Tahgajute 247 X1

Ray Gould had named the Tahgahute Lodge #247 X1 as one of the toughest pieces from the Lodge in an earlier post on the toughest New York OA from old Area 2-G.

Aside from the N0.5 (which is still a need of mine) it is probably the toughest patch issued by the lodge.

Tahgajute #247 X1

There is a Tahgajute #247 X1 currently available on eBay. The starting bid is $ 80.00. While it is sometimes tough to tell on odd-shapes how high they will go, I would not be surprised for this patch to go for 2-3 times the starting bid.

Do you need one?

Area 2-G 1970 Conclave

The 1970 Area 2-G conclave was hosted by Tahgajute Lodge #247 and held at Camp Rotary, NY.  There were two issues for the conclave a pocket patch and a larger pie patch which can be found on and off the neckerchief.

First up is the pocket patch which is undated.

There is also a larger patch, seen here on a green neckerchief.

The larger patch as you can see is dated.  Thanks to Tom Wadnola for the images.

Section NE-3B 2006 Conclave Issue

I had previously written about the regular issue from the 2006 Section NE-3B Conclave held at Camp Rotary and hosted by Tahgajute Lodge #247. I recently acquired the patch pictured below which has a red border, rather than the black pictured in the earlier post.

Is this a staff issue or a Prototype? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Tahgajute Lodge #247 Neckerchief N0.5

Neale Cummings recently won a 247N0.5 on our favorite auction site, eBay. The neckerchief he won is pictured below.

Ray Gould commented that:

After looking at this auction more carefully, I’ve noticed several things which are different as compared to the example Frank McClain owns in his collection (247 N.05). First, the neckerchief color appears darker (perhaps due to scanning differences but not likely). Second, there are many differences in where the lettering is placed on the neckerchief. Third, there are distinct differences in the thunderbird’s head, center tail feather, and blue coloring in the wing. My belief remains that these were handmade (probably by a single individual) and perhaps given as gifts (Frank mentioned that his example came from a 1960’s #247 chief). The hand-painted theory would account for some of these differences and their rare status. One would suspect that if were used for general membership, they would have surfaced in greater quantity (however, the lodge has long had very small membership numbers and the n/c might have had a short period of use). Who knows…

I had previously written about this Tahgajute issue back in December 2005. A scan of that neckerchief is listed below.

Does anyone know ‘the rest of the story’ on this one?

Due to the seeming handmade nature of this neckerchief, I think I would just add HMVE (Hand Made Varieties Exist) to the existing N0.5 description.  Rather than create a variety at least until more examples surface or more is known.

Tahgajute Lodge #247 Discovery? P1c

Discovery A potential new discovery from Tahgajute Lodge #247, several years ago Frank McClain showed me a photocopy of a Pie-shaped patch from Lodge #247. What was unique, was that the thunderbird had no eye, all of the other examples he had seen (and I had seen at the time) had a single yellow eye embroidered on the head of the Thunderbird.

A short primer on the P1a and P1b from Tahgajute.

Tahgajute Lodge #247 P1aIf you click on the thumbnail, a larger image will open. You will note that there is no red embroidered between the lower yellow diamond and the Black Tail Feathers.

The Blue Book Describes it as:

P1a BLK R ORG YEL 165×215 mm; No RED border at bottom of YEL DIA on chest; QC .

Tahgajute Lodge #247 P1bThe P1b has a thin red embroidered line between the lower yellow diamond and the Black Tail Feathers.

Also note in the detailed scan the positioning of the tags bbetween the various parts of the thunderbirds body.

The Blue Book describes it as follows:
P1b BLK R ORG YEL 165×215 mm; RED border at bottom of YEL DIA on chest QC

I recently acquired the neckerchief which appears below. There is no eye embroidered on the thunderbird head. Under bright light and magnification, there is no indication of needle punches in the patch which you would find in a threadbreak (Although this would not rule out a needlebreak). Also note the different locations of some of the tags in the Thunderbird’s body.

While not conclusive, does anyone else have any examples of the No-eye Thunderbird?

Tahgajute Lodge #247 P1c?

My initial inclination would be to classify this as the P1c.

Blue Book Stats:
P1c BLK R ORG YEL - 165×215 mm; RED border at bottom of YEL DIA on chest, No eye on thunderbird QC

Tahgajute Lodge #247 S17 X5 Set Section NE 3B 2006 Conclave

Another report from Ray Gould. Ray has been doing some digging and there is more to come from him in future posts. Thanks for all of your help.

Tahgajute was the host Lodge for the NE-3B Section Conclave held at Camp Rotary this past August. In addition to the usual Section items, Tahgajute issued its first two piece set which was sold by the Lodge at the conclave.
