Northeast Region OA Realignment - Breakup GNYC?

Grand Canyon South RimA couple on months back, I posted on the 2008 Realignment of the Northeast Region of the BSA and its likely effects on the various OA Sections in New York. This was based on the original post on John Pannells site.

I have just received what is reportedly the composition of the OA Sections (from 2 different sources) which I will post on later tonight or tomorrow, once I have had a chance to absorb the information.

The first thing is that the 5 GNYC Lodges which have always been if the same section or area since Area C in the 1940’s are now being split up. The world is rent, the center cannot hold!

It was reported that NE7 would include:

  • 360 Shinnecock
  • 412 Buckskin
  • 4 Ranachqua
  • 15 Ktemaque
  • 24 Shu-Shu-Gah
  • 49 Suanhacky
  • 82 Man-A-Hattin
  • 86 Nacha Nimat
  • 112 Aquehongian
  • 28 Half Moon
  • 2 Sakuwit
  • 9 Lenapehoking
  • 43 Woapalanne
  • It seems that there will be these lodges will be split into 2 Sections NE-7A and NE-7B. Shu Shu Gah #24, Man-a-Hattin Lodge #82 and Aquehongian Lodge #112 will be in the half of the Section with the NJ Lodges. Ranachqua #4 and Suanhacky #49 will be with the upstate NY Lodges (and Long Island).

    More details to follow.

Complete NY State OA Bullion Collection

John Pannell just posted on his OA specialty collection, OA Bullions. He describes them as:

My own special interested is very restricted. I collect bullions. Bullions are a rather unusual category of insignia. These patches are made, at least in part, with coiled metal in place of thread. Blue Book uses a “B” to note these issues. My collection of these patches is possibly the most complete on in the country.

I don’t mean to brag myself, but I do have a complete NY State OA Bullion Collection. I was able to complete it a couple of years back with the acquisition of the Bullion pictured below fro Suanhacky Lodge #49.

Discovery Suanhacky Lodge #49 Event Patch Variation

DiscoverySuanhacky Lodge #49 had taken a table at the Shu Shu Gah Lodge TOR last weekend, and I took the opportunity to pick up a few duplicates flaps and event patches as trading stock. One of the issues I picked up was their Arrowquest 2007. Since it is a twill patch, I compared it to the one I already had in my collection.

I had previously posted about Arrowquest 2007 earlier this year. Where I had described it as

The 2007 version of the patch has a red cut edge border, white background, yellow Suanhacky Lodge, 2007, Arrowquest and a brown FDL. The likely Blue Book Designation is 49eA2007.

Now we have a twill direction variety.

Suanhacky Lodge #49 Update F5 - Tower of Friendship

UpdateMitch Schwadron sent John Pannell an email regarding an update to one of the descriptions in the Blue Book for the Suanhacky Lodge #49 F5 Flap. The Blue Book describes the issue as containing a Lighthouse. This is incorrect. The Tower behind the leaping stag is the Tower of Friendship.

Suanhacky Lodge #49 F5 Flap - Tower of Friendship

    Mitch adds

…the Tower of Friendship, located in from of the (Suanhacky) Lodge House, on Crystal Lake, on the grounds of Camp Mann/Lakeside in Ten Mile River Scout Camps.

The Tower of Friendship has stones from every state, some foreign countries, and US possessions. Under the statue there is a space for an oil lamp, to guide canoers to the slate stairs that go to the lake. But it is not a light house.

The History of Suanhacky Lodge states:

One of the most lasting projects that Suanhacky lodge completed over the years was the construction of the Tower of Friendship. The lodge members built this and rocks from all of the states were sent to build the tower, showing the friendship that is made through scouting.

This area is now near Camp Kernochan and the site of “The Village.” I’ve noted the correction in the description for the next Blue Book.

As a matter of fact, the first 4 Suanhacky Jacket Patches (J1-4) also picture the Tower of Friendship.
