Unfinished Projects - OA Images

OAImages.comJohn Pannell has posted on his blog about one of the unfinished projects  on his main site, the Internet Guide to OA Insignia. In this case Lodge Anniversary Issues.

… have been giving some needed attention to one unfinished segment of the site over the past few days, the lodge anniversaries section on the National & Special Events Patches page.

There is no consistent way that lodge anniversaries are denoted in Blue Book.  I can search for phrases like “NNth Anniversary”, but that doesn’t find everything.  Even so there is still much to do.  It takes a lot of busy work to manually sort through listings and add a key for each significant anniversary into the databases that power this site.

I started with 5th anniversary issues and worked upwards in five year increments.  Sorry, guys.   While Awaxaawe Awachia’s first anniversaryor Papago’s 39 1/4th anniversaryflaps might be interesting curiosities, those anniveraries are not significant enough to merit their own pages!

I guess this means that John won’t be devoteing a page to Shu Shu Gah Lodge’s 33rd Anniversary R3.  ;-)

Seriously if you can help John out with any missing items it only makes his site (and its usefulness to us all) stronger.

If any knows of other Patch Collecting Blogs, I’d be interested in hearing about them.

Complete NY State OA Bullion Collection

John Pannell just posted on his OA specialty collection, OA Bullions. He describes them as:

My own special interested is very restricted. I collect bullions. Bullions are a rather unusual category of insignia. These patches are made, at least in part, with coiled metal in place of thread. Blue Book uses a “B” to note these issues. My collection of these patches is possibly the most complete on in the country.

I don’t mean to brag myself, but I do have a complete NY State OA Bullion Collection. I was able to complete it a couple of years back with the acquisition of the Bullion pictured below fro Suanhacky Lodge #49.

Time Man of the Year - John Pannell Out of the Running

Time Person of the Year 2007John Pannell one of the Time Person of the Year Winners for 2006 does not seem to make the cut in 2007.  ;-) Time Magazine released its short list for the award.

A former Vice President turned green guru? The most popular, and powerful, man in Russia? How about a fiery Middle East leader, or the brains behind Harry Potter? Take a look at these and other possible contenders, and vote for your pick. The editors reserve the right to disagree. Their selection will be announced in the December 31st issue of TIME, on sale Dec. 21

You can vote here. Maybe a write in campaign would put John over the top!

Girl Guide and Girl Scout Patch Collecting Directory

During my trolling around the web, I came across a new collecting blog, this one on Girl Guide and Girl Scout Patch collecting.

Introduction to Patch Collecting

While there is a bounty of fun, interesting and rewarding activities that take place when you belong to Girl Guides (or Scouts), often these activities are limited to the time spent at meetings, on day trips or at camps. Patch collecting however is a Girl Guide related activity which you can enjoy around the clock (even if you’re no longer, or not currently, enrolled in Guiding). Which may be part of the reason behind its widespread appeal.

If this post, a comprehensive overview on collecting Girl Guide or Girl Scout memorabilia and related resources is typical of what is to come, it will be well worth watching.
