No Northeast Region OA Patch for the 2010 Jamboree

I had previously written about the 2010 Northeast Region Chief flap set. Dave Scocca who maintains a  Northeast Region OA checklist left a comment which I thought desereved to be highlighted.  For those who collect Northest Region OA Issues, Dave found out:

According to an email I received from the Region Chairman shortly before NJ, there was no NE Region OA Jambo patch this year. (At the previous three Jamborees there has been such a patch, and at the last two there has also been a mylar-bordered limited edition passed out by the Region Chief.)

Foer those of who who collect all Northeast REgion Jamboree issues, Dave has updated his Northeast Region Jamboree checklist to include the 2010 issues

2010 Northeast Region Chief Set

One of my side collections is Northeast Region OA issues.  The best checklist for this information is maintained by Dave Scocca.  I only collect the Northeast Region Chief flaps if the Chief is from a New York State Lodge.

For 2010, the NER cheif is from Hunnikick Lodge #76 from New Jersey.  There were two issues, the gray border sold to lodge members and a white border, given out by the Region Chief as a friendship gift.  A pair recently ended on eBay.

Clicking on the image will bring you to the auction results for the next few months.

Six unique bidders drove the price on these flaps from $ 0.99 to over $ 53.00.

Region Update

After yesterdays post on potential changes relating to the BSA Regions, I received the following which is part of a memo from Bob Mazzuca dated September 21, 2009 which said in part:

NER updateClick on the scan to see a larger image.

Basically, the region structure will remain, but it will be centralized in Texas resulting in the closing of the 4 Regional offices.

NER update 2Cost reduction is a major factor here with an estimated cost reduction of more than $2,000,000 per year. Good luck to those affected by the changes.

Regions to Merge?

In the rumor and innuendo department… I received this anonymously.

Just heard that all 4 regions are being “eliminated.”  Not sure how they’re implementing.  My guess is that they’ve got to keep the regions from an organizational standpoint, but they may close the 4 offices and transfer the people that they still need to Dallas as a cost saving measure.  Having seen the NER office in Jamesburg (a very nice, large and modern office building), I can only guess that the same functions can be handled out of Dallas for less money, even if one adds in increased travel costs.

If they’re just closing the offices without seriously changing the organizational structure, it probably has no effect on collectors.  If they are really completely eliminating the regions (and I’m not sure that that’s organizationally possible), it obviously has major ramifications.

I can’t comment on the veracity of the information, has anyone else heard any rumblings?

Obviously cost containment and reduction are big concerns at both the individual Council and the National levels.

It was only a year or so ago when the Sections were reorganized into the current configurations.

Arrowcorps5 Northeast Region Chief Patch

At the Philadelphia TOR this past weekend, I was able to fill a couple of Northeast Region needs on my last walkabout before I had to leave on Friday evening.

One of them was the Northeast Region Chief issue from ArrowCorps5, while not easy to tell from the scan, it has a Silver Mylar Border.

2008 Arrowcorps5 Northeast Region Chief Patch

2008 Arrowcorps5 Northeast Region Chief Patch

Looks like my current needs include:

Northeast Region (NER) Quality Section 2004 Blue
NER Section Officers Seminar Yel Border Dome
NER 2001 Jambo GMY border Dome,
NER 2002 NOAC GMY triangle,
NER 2004 NOAC SMY border Rectangle,
NER 2006 NOAC GMY Dome,
Can anyone confirm if their was a NE Region chief issue for the 2009 NOAC?
For those who collect Northeast Region Order of the Arrow Patches Dave Scocca’s website is invaluable.

Wanted 2000 Northeast Region Section Officers Seminar Patch

Since 1996, the Northeast Region has been issuing patches for those staffing and attending the annual Section Officers Seminar frequently held at Camp Alpine.

Shown below is the patch issued to participants in 1999.
