Wakanda Lodge #186 Arrowree 1961 Neckerchief Slide

Here is the tenth slide in the series on NY OA Neckerchief slides and bolos. You can find previous entries by clicking on the neckerchief slide category in the left sidebar.

This one is a plastic event slide from Wakanda Lodge #186. During the early to late 1960’s, Wakanda issued a number of event neckerchiefs, generally for spring and fall fellowships.

This slide was issued for an Arrowree. Anyone know what that event was?

Kamrgo Lodge #294 Neckerchief Slide

The ninth slide in the series on neckerchief slides once again comes from Ray Gould. Ray advises:

This slide was produced for members of Kamargo #294. While it appears a home made one-of-a-kind example, I am told it was available for purchase by lodge members. I have seen at least 2 other examples in the collections of #294 members (one was spied at this years #219 banquet being worn by a former 1970’s #294 member. In addition, I believe there are two varieties of this item (size of chipmunk?…coloration?…I’ve seen both but do not remember the exact distinction). As a side note, the example I’ve shown is broken…it should have a red arrow behind the chipmunk…groove where the arrow was placed is on back of slide…I’ve witnessed the un-broken examples and can attest to the arrow’s placement on slide.

The slide reminds me of the work of Roland Flora who handcrafted Boy Scout neckerchief slides and bolos from his shop/store on Route 97, The Slide Farm. Roland passed away several years ago, and the TMR Museum was fortuante to be able to display several hundred of the slides Roland made over the years. Roland made slides for dozens of troops, camp staffs and OA Lodges and chapter over the years.

Adirondack Lodge #357 Neckerchief Slide

The eighth entry in the series on neckerchief slide comes from Ray Gould. It is from Adirondack Lodge #357. Ray advises:

This was an official slide from #357. As I’m sure you were aware, slides like this were utilized by many lodges (the manufacturer would simply place the appropriate totem on the slide…all else would remain the same). Regardless, I have seen a few of these in original #357 collections (where I obtained mine).

Nacha Nimat Ldoge #86 Neckerchief Slide

The sixth item in our series on neckerchief slides comes from one of the newer lodges, Nacha Nimat #86. I do have one of these slides available for trade for other NY OA Lodge Slides.

The design as you can see follows the “regular issue” pattern the lodge has used since the S1 pictured below.

Shu Shu Gah Lodge #24 Neckerchief Slide

Here is the 5th entry in our series on OA Neckerchief slides from New York State. This one is another offering from Shu Shu Gah Lodge #24.

Although this is from my home lodge, I’m was sure what the provenance of this item was.

Shu Shu Gah Lodge, had two different chapters (Ktchkinquehhellen and Nah Ne Wah Ye) which typically included the sun in its designs and Brooklyn had a Sunrise District back in the day (pre-1979).

Some research via the Brooklyn Arrowhead group revealed the following:

Brothers:

This slide was produced by the Shu-Shu-Gah brothers in Post and Troop 540 as a fundraiser for the units. The late Sam Haberman, then ASM of Troop 540 and the late Joe Kessler, the SM of Troop 540 produced them in about 1960. As a member of the Troop and the Post I recall this. Joel V. then our Post President, can verify this.

Arthur S.

If anyone has more information they can share, please let me know.

The slide is a hard white plastic, with the standing heron superimposed over the sun. It is a diamond design measuring about 52mm per side. The Lodge name and number is in black and it also has a red WWW.

You can see it below:

Shu Shu Gah Lodge #24 Neckerchief Slide 45th Anniversary

This is the 4th slide in the series of NY OA Lodge neckerchief slides. I do have a duplicate of this one and would trade it for another neckerchief slide from a NY OA Lodge.

This one is from Shu Shu Gah Lodge #24 from Brooklyn, NY. This is a flap-shaped slide approximately 56mm wide. It depicts the 45th Anniversary design found on the #24S6.
