Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268 R1

Gene Philips sent the following information about the 268R1.

Also the Blue Book listing for R1 is incorrect. This was not a lodge offering. It is the 1965 summer camp patch for Camp Saratoga.
The Council chose to honor the OA anniversary by adding the 3 W’s. I have heard some say that the actual summer camp patch is the same design without the 3 W”s. That is incorrect. There never was such an issue ( perhaps a thread break could have produced one however I have never seen one and neither have the other two active major collectors in this Area). That was a couple of years after I served on the staff at Camp Saratoga and a few years before I reregistered. However I have seen collections from people who attended Camp that year and they all have the 3 W’s whether they were OA members or not.

Now there is an argument that while the lodge executive board did not directly approve the patch, it was approved by the Council Executive or his designee and therefore was approved by the Supreme Chief of the Fire. As such that would make it a lodge issue.

What do you think?

1978 Section NE-2A Conclave Staff Neckerchief

I had previously written that the 1978 Section NE-2A Conclave was hosted by Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268 and held at their council Camp, Camp Saratoga. At the Shu Shu Gah TOR last weekend, I discovered that there was also a staff neckerchief issued for the event.

I’ve updated the original post with the image too.

According to Rob Higgens OA Section list, the following lodges were in Section NE-2A:

  • Sisilija Lodge #19
  • Wakpominee Lodge #48
  • Nischa Nimat Lodge #181
  • Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268
  • Loon Lodge #364
  • Onteroraus Lodge #402
  • Thay-En-Da-Ne-Gea Lodge #418

Is anyone aware of any other issues for this conclave?

“The history of ancient and modern republics had taught them that many of the evils which those republics suffered arose from the want of a certain balance, and that mutual control indispensable to a wise administration. They were convinced that popular assemblies are frequently misguided by ignorance, by sudden impulses, and the intrigues of ambitious men; and that some firm barrier against these operations was necessary. They, therefore, instituted your Senate.” –Alexander Hamilton

1971 Area 2-D Conclave Staff Neckerchief

Been a very busy week with life, work and Scouting since the Shu Shu Gah TOR last weekend, but hopefully things will calm down a bit and I can get back to more regular posting. I picked up a number of conclave items from lodges in Northeastern NY thanks to Gene Philips. Here is one, a staff neckerchief from the 1971 Area 2-D Conclave held at Camp Saratoga and hosted by Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268.

I was unaware of the existence of this item and I understand there may be a variety with a similar ribbon with red detailing.

I’ll add this to the original 1971 2-D conclave listing.

  • Sisilija Lodge #19
  • Half Moon Lodge #28

  • Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268

NE-2A 1989 Section Conclave

The 1989 Section NE-2A Conclave was the first conclave following the 1988 Section Realignments, this brought 2 New England Lodges into what had been a strictly NYS Section since the realignment from Area to Sections back in 1972.

The event was hosted by Ta-Oun-Ya-Wat-Ha Lodge #268 and was held at Camp Saratoga.  The theme for the weekend was “We With Hearts and Wills United.”

In addition to the typical Pocket patch and neckerchief, there was also a particpation pin.
