Heard Around the State II

A few bits of information I’ve heard relating to New York Lodges.  Not enough for individual posts, but enough to share.  In each case I’m looking for more information, images and of course trades.

  • Ranachqua #4 - One more in a flurry of new issues.  I understand that a new neckerchief is in the works.  More info as it becomes available.
  •  Ktemaque #15 - I understand that two new issues have been released. Looking for scans and or trades.
  • Half Moon #28 - a design for a new trader has been selected and is (?) on order.
  • Suanhacky #49 - Apparently the 2006 TOR was the last.  The current word is the Lodge will not be hosting a TOR this November.
  • Ty-Ohni #95 - will be hosting a TOR in late April.  Looking for details to post to the site and/or provide a link.
  • Ho-De-No-Sau-Nee #159 - Mike Hulsizer brings word of multiple new issues from 159.  A regular flap, officers issue and banquet patch.  I will likely be posting on these next week.
  • Kayanernh-Kowa #219 - while not hosted by the lodge, there will be a TOR on June 9, 2007 in Camp Woodlands.  unfortunately as previously reported, Half Moon will be hosting a TOR the same weekend.
  • Kittan- has approved a new design for a regular issue flap.  No word on whether they will follow the Loon restrictions or adopt the Haudenosaunee #19 unrestricted regular issues.
  • Kittan - Speaking of lodge #19.  I understand the issue of the "number" for Kittan is not final.  While initial word was that they would use #364 the Council Number, a motion has been made to change the "number" back to #19.  Of course the number only exists in the local lodge and not with National.

Anyone else have any information to share?

Kayanernh-Kowa Lodge #219 X1.1? Shadow Clan

Updated 10-08-07 for item number

Ray Gould had left a comment on my Heard Around the State Post regarding a series of Shadow Clan Patches issued by Kayanernh-Kowa Lodge #219. A Little digging by Ray turned up the following:

He also provided me with an example (to scan) of the 219 Shadow Clan patch. It was available to those who earned a pre-determined set of points throughout the year (each OA activity or service was worth different points). This example was issued retroactively circa 2002 for those who would have likely earned it previous. There are 4-5 additional colors that may be earned sequentially (1 per year).

The Lodge website lists the requirements for the award. Some of them are:

  • You can only earn one Shadow Clan Patch per year.
  • To earn the patch you must obtain 100 points based on the points system. The points will then be verified by the Awards and Recognition committee at that year’s LLDC.
  • The Shadow Clan patch will be presented at the Winter Banquet the following year.

Camp Portaferry won’t operate next summer

I had earlier posted under Camp for Trade or Sale about the potential sale of Camp Portaferry by the Hiawatha Seaway Council.

Some additional information was recently available on the MSNBC website.

Due to poor attendance, the Hiawatha Seaway Boy Scout Council has decided to not operate boy scout camp at Camp Portaferry near Harrisville next summer. Instead boy scouts will go to Sabattis Scout Reservation in Tupper Lake, according to council executive Raymond Sander.

But there is still some hope for the Camp remaining at least partially in Scout Hands:

“There is concern about the future use of the camp and perhaps partnering is an opportunity with another charity or another entity and to use the camp in some form or fashion in the future,”

A Scouts First Camp or first Summer Camp is always held in special regard.  While Portaferry is not mine, I know how I would feel if the situation was the same for Ten Mile River.

    Camp for Sale or Trade?

Not really a joking matter, Don Izard brought word to Patch-L a few days back that Hiawatha-Seaway was having some financial difficulties and was looking to sell one of its Scout Camps, Camp Portaferry.  Separately I also heard from Ray Gould, that Camp Portaferry has been underutilizd since the merger of Hiawatha Council and Seaway Valley a few years back.

Always a sad thing to see an old Scout Camp with its traditions and memories fade away.

You can find more information here.

Not sure if this means there would be any potential mergers in the future and if so, what effect it may have on Kayanernh-Kowa #219
