Section NE-2A 2018 Project LEAP Staff Pocket Patch

A few days ago I posted about the 2018 LEAP Participant Patch from Section NE-2A and cross posted it to Facebook. On Facebook, I asked if anyone had an image of the Staff Patch and Jon H. provided the image below.

The Section NE-2A 2018 Project LEAP was held on January 14, 2018 at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Suffield, CT.

Not their usual full ghost this time, but aside from the arrowhead the patch is all shades of purple.

Does anyone have one for trade or sale?

“It is necessary for every American, with becoming energy to endeavor to stop the dissemination of principles evidently destructive of the cause for which they have bled. It must be the combined virtue of the rulers and of the people to do this, and to rescue and save their civil and religious rights from the outstretched arm of tyranny, which may appear under any mode or form of government.” —Mercy Warren (1805)

Buckskin Lodge #412 New Embroidered Neckerchief Arrow Left?

Back in late 2007, I wrote about the then new N7 from Buckskin Lodge. As you can see below, it had an arrow pointing right.

Buckskin Lodge #412 Emroidered Neckerchief N7

As you can see in the scan, both the white band and red arrow are embroidered. The previous issue, the N6 had an embroidered arrow, but the white line was silkscreened. In earlier versions the white ‘line’ was a ribbon, sewn to the neckerchief.

I recently picked up a similar neckerchief which appears to be of the same vintage, but has an arrow facing left. This was the old method for showing Brotherhood, but this is too modern to be from that era.

Was this an error reorder of the N7? Private Issue? Who knows the rest of the story?

“If by the liberty of the press were understood merely the liberty of discussing the propriety of public measures and political opinions, let us have as much of it as you please: But if it means the liberty of affronting, calumniating and defaming one another, I, for my part, own myself willing to part with my share of it.” —Benjamin Franklin (1789)

Discovery – Ganeodiyo Lodge #417 50th Anniversary X5 Twill Varieties

I had previously commented that while I enjoyed tracking and cataloguing new issues, what I really liked about hosting this site was finding out about previously uncatalogued issues. I had acquired what I thought was a duplicate of the 417X5 a while back but had not checked it to my collection. I’ve gotten in the habit of checking twill issues to confirm I have the same twill direction and to make sure I keep the better of the two issues if mine is not mint.

On comparing the two patches, I realized that there were two distinct twill directions, Twill Right and Twill Left.

Not the easiest to see in the scan, but these is twill right.

which would make the Stats.

“The pyramid of government-and a republican government may well receive that beautiful and solid form-should be raised to a dignified altitude: but its foundations must, of consequence, be broad, and strong, and deep. The authority, the interests, and the affections of the people at large are the only foundation, on which a superstructure proposed to be at once durable and magnificent, can be rationally erected.” —James Wilson

“It is a duty certainly to give our sparings to those who want; but to see also that they are faithfully distributed, and duly apportioned to the respective wants of those receivers. And why give through agents whom we know not, to persons whom we know not, and in countries from which we get no account, where we can do it at short hand, to objects under our eye, through agents we know, and to supply wants we see?” —Thomas Jefferson (1823)
