Felt Flocked Vigil Sash

An auction ended on eBay earlier this month which had a seldom seen Felt Flocked Vigil Sash.  Rob Higgens in his History of the OA Sash site states that these types of sashes were used from circa 1948 to 1951.

Clicking on the image will bring you to the auction results for the next few months.

Wikipedia describes flocking as

Flocking is the process of depositing many small fiber particles (called flock) onto a surface. It can also refer to the texture produced by the process, or to any material used primarily for its flocked surface. Flocking of an article can be performed for the purpose of increasing its value in terms of the tactile sensation, aesthetics, color and appearance. It can also be performed for functional reasons including insulation, slip-or-grip friction, and low reflectivity.

Eleven distinct bidders drove the price of this sash to over $ 55o.oo.  Five of them were still bidding at $ 400.00  and higher.

1994 Section NE-5 Conclave

The 1994 Section NE-5 Conclave was hosted by Langundowi Lodge #46 and held at Custaloga Town Scout Reservation.  The theme was On The Path of the Arrow.

Rob Higgens provides a scan of the pocket patch.

1994 Section NE-5 Pocket Patch

Were any other items issued for this event?

This is currently a need of mine.

Update Aug. 2014:
Todd Rogers advised:

…that the 1994 Conclave had an Envelope/Cancelled Stamp they sold during the weekend. These were sold for a few dollars and there were 1,000 made. I know they didn’t sell out but I’m not sure what happened to them after the event. I’ve scanned mine (front and back). These may be tough items to get since I don’t think I’ve seen one on eBay in the last 15 years. I suspect many of the people who bought them lost track of them and many ended up in the trash over the last 20 years.

General Herkimer Council Half Strip

An auction recently ended on eBay for a General Herkimer Council Half Strip which may be of interest to NY Collectors.

General Herkimer Council and Iroquois Council merged to form Revolutionary Trails Council.

Clicking on the image will bring you to the auction for the next few months.

Bidding was modest on this issue, with 3 different bidders chasing the half strip.

“An armed republic submits less easily to the rule of one of its citizens than a republic armed by foreign forces. Rome and Sparta were for many centuries well armed and free. The Swiss are well armed and enjoy great freedom. Among other evils caused by being disarmed, it renders you contemptible. It is not reasonable to suppose that one who is armed will obey willingly one who is unarmed; or that any unarmed man will remain safe among armed servants.”The Prince” – Niccolo Machiavelli, ” (1532)

1948 OA Handbook Hardbound Edition

There is an auction for a 1948 Hardback OA Handbook.  This is probably the single toughest OA  Handbook in existence.   The seller claims only 10 were made, my understanding is the number is more like 100.  However, who knows how many still exist today.

Clicking on the image will bring you to the auction for the next few months.

As you can see, with a couple of days left, the auction is already over $ 170.00.  I have no idea how this will end up.  As far as I can remember, this is the only Hardbound version I have ever seen listed.

If your interested in collecting OA Handbooks, you can find a copy of my OA Handbook Checklist here.
