We the People

I didn’t realize that Ray Stevens was still making music.  Here is his latest.

“It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth — and listen to the song of that syren, till she transforms us into beasts. … Are we disposed to be of the number of those, who having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not?” –Patrick Henry

HARRY YODER’S WABANINGO OA BOOK

Here is another interesting auction from eBay.  What would eb called in book collecting circle’s an Association Copy.

This term, often scoffed at by laymen, is applied to a copy which once belonged to, or was annotated by, the author; which once belonged to someone connected with the author or someone of interest in his own right; or again, and perhaps most interestingly, belonged to someone peculiarly associated with its contents. Its extension to mean any book owned by a famous person can only be excused by establishing some point of real contact, other than the simple fact of possession. The catalogue note will generally explain the nature of the “association”, which may vary from the obvious to the remote.

The Wabaningo Handbook, which could well be considered the first OA Patch Collecting Guide and a precursor to today’s Blue Book.

The copy in the auction, belonged to Harry Yoder, as the seller explains

The year was 1915. Treasure Island’s Senior Patrol Leader was preparing the first candidates for their trip to the south end of the island. It was the beginning of a lifetime membership in the Wimachtendienk W. W. for Harry A. Yoder. Harry was one of the first 25 members of 1915.

Despite the rough shape, the auction ended at over $ 112 for this interesting piece of OA History.
