State Shaped Patches

by @ 6:16 pm on November 9, 2007. Filed under Scouting Blogs

John Pannell has begun an interesting series on patches shaped like the home state of the issuing lodge.  John titles the series These 50 States.  First up is North Carolina.

I can’t think of any NY shaped patches.  I do have a couple of neckerchiefs with the outline of New York State, one likely a private issue from Otahnagon and the other some sort of OA event issue, I’m still looking for more information on that one.

A patch shaped like of New York State would be tough; Long and Staten Islands would keep drifting away. :-)

HEy John, I believe Lodge #60 issued a Texas shaped patch.

  1. John Pannell Says:

Long Island drifting away from the rest of NY? Probably wouldn’t be a bad thing. ;) … coming from a recovering Long islander.

Several other states would pose problems, too. The one VA shaped patch I found left off VA’s part of the Del-Mar-Va peninsula. Alaska would have a long and fragile extensions… as would WV. Then there’s all the “square states”. ;)

Actually I could imagine a neat series of patches from Hawaii, if only the two lodges there would do it. Make a patch in the shape of each of the main islands. On the patches depict some aspect of Hawaii — native life, culture, plants, maybe tourism…

Hmmm… Maybe I should say “Aloha” to my Hawaiian Scouting friend and tell him about this…
