20 Things Our Children Won’t Understand

I stumbled across this list in my browsing.

I know you have all heard how comic books used to be $0.10, Candy bars $0.05 and how we (our parents or grandparents) used to walk to school 5 miles in the snow (uphill, both ways); but here is a more contemporary list that our children (grandchildren or great grandchildren as the case may be) won’t understand. Some are humorous, some sad and some make you stop and think a bit.

It is has a few Science Fiction references but most are ones we all can recognize.

1. The opening line of Neuromancer. *

2. Please be kind—rewind.

8. Dittos.9. Green-on-black computer monitors.

14. A and B drives.

19. Why manual transmission is referred to as “standard.”

You can find the full list here. [2]

*The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.

What would you add to the list?

Record Albums, 8 -Tracks, soon Cassette tapes. Transistor Radios?

Here’s a few more…

Manual typewriters

Windup clocks

Pull-top tabs

To add more specificity to John’s third item, Jimmy Buffett’s “…stepped on a pop-top…”.

For those who don’t know the reference.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame,
Now I think,– hell it could be my fault.
I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there’s booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.
