Kittan Lodge First Flap S1

New Issue [2]Updated: I wanted two add two points to the post:

  1. As Dave Scocca points out in the comments, the Lodge is referring to itself as Lodge #364 on its web-page.
  2. Jonathan Grove asked me to explain the old Lodge Restrictions – Haudenosaunee Lodge #19’s regular issues were unrestricted although they did have some NOAC Delegate issues and an Honor Guard neckerchief that had a very limited issuance. Loon Lodge #364 had the reverse. Some of their anniversaries and NOAC issues were unrestricted, but all of their regular issues were tightly restricted including their one per member Death Flap.

Eric G brings word that Kittan Lodge (the result of the merger between Loon Lodge #364 and Haudenosaunee Lodge #19) has now issued its First Flap. Apparently, they will be following the Haudenosaunee tradition regarding restrictions rather than the Loon traditions.

Apparently, the Lodge totem is the Porcupine. Neither the Lodge “Number” nor Council Number appears on the flap.

Oh, boy… This will give cataloguers something to agonize over. What “lodge number” to use? I’ll probably put it up as “(19) Kittan”.

That also gives me more nudging to correct “620 Takoda” to “(146) Takoda”.

John,
I don’t know. Absent something specific from the lodge, the council number is 364. Thats what I’m tentatively using.

YMMV,
Bill

The lodge website at [6] calls it Kittan Lodge 364.

Bob,
If I get an extra I’ll keep you in mind. I suspect it should not be too difficult over time.

A nice looking flap but with the restriction i guess us West Coast folks are out of luck.

Jim,

I’ve traded for a couple already myself and if I was not clear they are unrestricted, although you need to find someone in the lodge to do that.

I am rather certain that there is no restriction on this flap. I will converse more with some of the lodge members to verify this.
I do know that there is some debate within Kittan over the Lodge’s number … as I understand it there was no number on the charter paperwork to national, though I would assume the council number would have been used for the paperwork.

p.s. As to my take on the number scenario, whatever the lodge reffers to itself as IS it’s number.

Chris,
I was probably unclear. They do seem to be following the Haudenosaunee Lodge #19 unrestricted issues. To the best of my knowledge however while unrestricted Haudenosaunee Lodge Flaps could only be brought by Lodge members on Lodge events.

As for numbers, I would agree to always use the number the Lodge has chosen. However this is just an internal number to the Lodge. National does not record it or use it on any BSA/OA records anymore. Absent a number chosen by the lodge, to catalog the issue, the Blue Book will have to use some number. While no firm decision has been made by the National Editors, it would likely be cataloged under the Council Number.
